Chinese gov’t says “we will not halt production of chicken jerky treats”

The Chinese government wrote in their response to Congressman McNerney, “From the perspective of the Chinese side, there might be something wrong with the FDA’s investigation guidance.”

The People’s Republic of China warned the congressman not to use the problem with Chinese chicken jerky treats to influence public opinion and “to clear the name of Chinese pet food and eliminate the negative impact thereof on Chinese pet food trade and bilateral relationship.”

The letter continues by stating that they WILL NOT halt production of the treats as long as the FDA has not found the manufacturing process to be responsible for making dogs sick. You may remember, however, that the Chinese government has stunted the FDA researchers’ ability to fully investigate the manufacturing process by not allowing them to sample the chicken used in their factories.

Basically, they are (yet another) link in the chain of organizations that refuse to take action to save the lives of our pets.

Because no single organization that could make a difference is stepping forward to do so, it is up to us, the consumers and dog owners, to boycott the brands that continue to import chicken jerky treats from China, to educate as many fellow dog owners as possible, and to only feed our dogs treats that are manufactured and sourced in the United States.
